English abstract

We often hear the expression of Neil Gaiman, a famous novelist who said "Google can bring you back 100,000 answers. A librarian can bring you back the right one ”. Based on his expression, the majority of librarians make it a doctrine to prove on how important the science of librarianship is to society. Various interpretations have emerged to explain the meaning of the expression. Even so, it is questionable whether librarians themselves have begun to act to increase knowledge to become Google application reference experts or vice versa. What kind of benefits can Librarians get when they become a Google application reference expert? How can Librarians at Universiti Sains Malaysia Library improve their competence to become Google application reference experts? This lecture elaborates on the real situation, needs and importance of Librarians in the Universiti Sains Malaysia Library transforming the existing field of work to build higher knowledge related to the use of Google applications. The lecture also recounted the challenges faced by Librarians to become Google application reference experts.
