English abstract

The control and standardization of cataloguing access is a subject that has always been present in the academic libraries' services organization. This control has been apparent in both the cataloguing context and in the setting up of OPAC tools that are coherent and adequate for the users, enabling students and researchers to conduct easy and thorough searches of the bibliographic collection. The problem of authority control is more apparent in larger libraries than in those of smaller size as it is easier to "control" the search results in smaller libraries. However the increased use of the net has highlighted the need to improve the quality of the results of bibliographic researches. In the last few years this need has been felt more strongly because of the introduction of important projects involved in the conversion of cards catalogues and for the of retrospective cataloguing onto information mediums.

Il controllo e la normalizzazione degli accessi catalografici è un tema che è sempre stato molto presente nell'organizzazione dei servizi delle biblioteche universitarie, sia nel contesto della catalogazione sia ai fini della predisposizione di strumenti OPAC coerenti ed adeguati per gli utenti, in grado di orientare in modo semplice ed efficace studenti e ricercatori verso un uso più approfondito delle collezioni bibliografiche. Il problema dell'authority control è molto più sentito nelle biblioteche di grandi e medie dimensioni che non in quelle di piccole dimensioni, dove è più facile "controllare" il risultato della ricerca, anche se lo sviluppo della rete ha però reso comune a tutti il problema di migliorare la qualità dei risultati delle ricerche bibliografiche. Negli ultimi anni questa esigenza si è fatta maggiormente sentire in virtù dell'avvio di importanti progetti di recupero del pregresso e di riconversione su supporto informatico della catalogazione retrospettiva.
