English abstract
The objective of the text is to show the importance of the Archivist as the professional responsible for managing the information generated by society through its institutions, so the functions that this professional must perform to fulfill its social purpose are presented in a generic way.

El objetivo del texto es evidenciar la trascendencia del Archivista como el profesional responsable de administrar la información generada por la sociedad a través de sus instituciones, por lo que se presentan de forma genérica las funciones que este profesionista debe realizar para cumplir con su propósito social.
