English abstract

Industry 4.0, or the fourth industrial revolution, refers to the major transformation taking place in the way goods are produced and delivered, moving towards the digital transformation of industry and a more sustainable manufacturing model. Industry 4.0 implies flexible production by enabling smart factories driven by data and smart technologies to rapidly change production lines to adapt to specific market needs, produce more with less energy, generate less waste and shorten lead times. In this context, libraries have significant potential in terms of empowering citizens and students through learning labs that drive innovation and creativity, fostering entrepreneurial mindsets and driving local development, and increasing on-site retention.
