English abstract

The usability is a basic necessity in the processes of creation of Web sites since it helps to reach the most optimal levels of efficiency, effectiveness and satisfaction of the product to synchronize itself to the maximum with the objectives of the user. The studies of usability applied to the digital libraries, have to take to us to offer friendlier interfaces and to improve the architecture of the information, generating processes of more intuitive and simplified interaction, so that the operation of the digital contents is transformed into a positive experience of user. The Universitat Oberta de Catalunya has made a study of operativity of its interfaces of user creating for it different work groups that have analyzed the different casuistries. One of these groups was centered in the study and analysis of the usability of the Web site of the Virtual Library, having like objective obtaining a series of benefits for our users. Fruit of this analysis, is taking place an important qualitative jump in the new implementation of the Web site of the UOC’s Virtual Library, prioritizing itself the paper of the user from different points of view: the facility of navigation, the management of profiles and services associated to these and the reconstruction of the architecture of the information, all it with the final mission to facilitate the access to the resources and services offered from the Library, pleading in this same sense for the quality and improve of these.

La usabilidad es una necesidad básica en los procesos de creación de sitios web ya que ayuda a alcanzar los niveles más óptimos de eficiencia, eficacia y satisfacción del producto para sincronizarse al máximo con los objetivos del usuario. Los estudios de usabilidad aplicados a las bibliotecas digitales, nos han de llevar a ofrecer interfaces más amigables y mejorar la arquitectura de la información, generando procesos de interacción más intuitivos y simplificados, de forma que la explotación de los contenidos digitales se transforme en una experiencia de usuario positiva. La Universitat Oberta de Catalunya ha realizado un estudio de operatividad de sus interfaces de usuario creando para ello diferentes grupos de trabajo que han analizado las diferentes casuísticas. Uno de dichos grupos se centró en el estudio y análisis de la usabilidad del sitio web de la Biblioteca Virtual, teniendo como objetivo el obtener una serie de beneficios para nuestros usuarios. Fruto de este análisis, se está produciendo un salto cualitativo importante en la nueva implementación del sitio web de la Biblioteca Virtual de la UOC, priorizándose el papel del usuario desde diferentes puntos de vista: la facilidad de navegación, la gestión de perfiles y servicios asociados a éstos y la reestructuración de la arquitectura de la información, todo ello con el objetivo final de facilitar el acceso a los recursos y servicios ofrecidos desde la Biblioteca, abogando en este mismo sentido por la calidad y mejora de éstos.
