English abstract

You may have heard about the Marrakesh Treaty. An intellectual property treaty that, for the first time, focuses on users and not on creators. It is a legal instrument that tries to achieve a bit of balance, this time in the intellectual property system, in the face of inequalities experienced by people with disabilities who experience difficulties in accessing reading. It allows the beneficiaries to access the information by adapting texts that are not commercially available in accessible formats, without having to request permission from the rights holders: authors and publishers, for example.

Se habrán enterado sobre el Tratado de Marrakech. Un tratado de propiedad intelectual que, por primera vez, se centra en los usuarios y no en los creadores. Se trata de un instrumento jurídico que intenta alcanzar un poco de equilibrio, esta vez en el sistema de propiedad intelectual, ante las desigualdades que viven las personas con discapacidades que transitan dificultades de acceso a la lectura. Permite que las personas beneficiarias puedan acceder a la información mediante la adaptación de textos que no se encuentran disponibles comercialmente en formatos accesibles, sin tener que pedir para ello, permiso a los titulares de derechos: autores y editores, por ejemplo.
