English abstract
The government of José I tried to promote access to books, in the wake of the French revolutionaries. This policy would materialize in a new Royal Library and the creation of public libraries, with books coming from convents and monasteries now suppressed.
Spanish abstract
El gobierno de José I intentó promover el acceso al libro siguiendo la estela de los revolucionarios franceses. Esta política se materializaría en una nueva Biblioteca Real y en la creación de bibliotecas públicas a partir de los libros de los conventos y monasterios suprimidos.
French abstract
Le gouvernement de Joseph Ier a essayé, dans le sillage des révolutionnaires français, de promouvoir l’accès aux livres. Cette politique a abouti à la création d’une nouvelle Bibliothèque Royale et de bibliothèques publiques alimentées par les livres provenant des couvents et des monastères désormais supprimés.
