English abstract

For this report, the contents of 50 randomly selected annual reports of public libraries for the year 2021 from the DACH region were evaluated. The libraries and the reports were very diverse. Some reports came from small, volunteer-run libraries in rural areas, others from metropolitan libraries. They mainly show what the libraries themselves considered relevant. The evaluation shows that public libraries in the DACH region operate in a relatively stable manner and can also demonstrate relatively good results. They take up topics from the specialist literature, but to a lesser extent. Rather, they are focused on reading promotion and literature work, on children and young people, and on physical media. Although this can be considered "traditional," the libraries thus provide relatively stable usage figures.

German abstract

Für den vorliegenden Bericht wurden 50, zufällig ausgewählte, Jahresberichte Öffentlicher Bibliotheken für das Jahr 2021 aus dem DACH-Raum inhaltlich ausgewertet. Die Bibliotheken und auch die Berichte waren sehr divers. Einige Berichte stammten von kleinen, ehrenamtlich geführte Bibliotheken im ländlichen Raum, andere von Metropolbibliotheken. Sie zeigen vor allem, was die Bibliotheken selber als relevant ansahen. Die Auswertung zeigt, dass Öffentliche Bibliotheken im DACH-Raum relativ stabil arbeiten und auch relativ gute Ergebnisse vorweisen können. Sie greifen Themen aus der Fachliteratur auf, aber im geringen Masse. Vielmehr sind sie fokussiert auf Leseförderung und Literaturarbeit, auf Kinder und Jugendliche und auf physische Medien. Obgleich dies als „traditionell“ gelten kann, liefern die Bibliotheken so doch relativ stabile Nutzungszahlen.
