English abstract

First, starting in the second half of the 20th century, some of the studies focusing on scientific users are described. Later, in the 1960s, the extension of user studies to other groups, such as social scientists, is described, and with it the introduction of methodologies specific to these disciplines. The 1970s saw the establishment of the Centre for Research on User Studies (CRUS), which became a reference point for research in this field. In the 1980s, some of the first initiatives aimed at providing a theoretical and methodological basis for information user studies were described. Finally, from the 1990s to the present day, the different denominations are presented as an indicator of the theoretical and methodological debates that have taken place in the context of the research area. All this development is based on various works published by the author dedicated to analysing information user research from a theoretical, methodological and historical perspective.
