English abstract

In the year 1946 the School of Agriculture and Veterinary, University of Buenos Aires (formerly Higher Institute of Agronomy and Veterinary) received the donation of an important book and serial collection which belonged to Dr. Pedro Narciso Arata (1849-1922), who was his first Rector. This is one of the most important bibliographic contribution the University of Buenos Aires has received in his history. It constitutes now the Arata Library - a collection of the School of Agriculture Central Library-, which holds about 14000 documents including books, pamphlets, magazines, manuscripts and photographs of multiple disciplines and areas. In 2005 the Central Library prepared the Project of put in value of this collection with the advice of different specialists. A diagnosis of the state of conservation was performed. It included the analysis of risks that affected the collection and provided recommendations for the control of environmental conditions and subsequent collection manipulation. This paper describes the measures developed to face of the different agents of deterioration

En el año 1946 la entonces Facultad de Agronomía y Veterinaria de la Universidad de Buenos Aires recibe en donación una parte importante de la colección de libros y revistas que perteneciera al Dr. Pedro Narciso Arata (1849-1922), primer Rector del Instituto Superior de Agronomía y Veterinaria; constituye uno de los aportes bibliográficos más importantes que haya recibido la Universidad de Buenos Aires en toda su historia. Constituye hoy la Biblioteca Arata -una colección de la Biblioteca Central de la Facultad- que atesora un conjunto de aproximadamente 14.000 documentos entre ellos libros, folletos, revistas, manuscritos y fotografías sobre múltiples disciplinas y épocas. En 2005 la Biblioteca Central de la Facultad de Agronomía preparó e inició el Proyecto de Puesta en Valor con el asesoramiento de distintos especialistas. Se realizó el diagnóstico de conservación de la colección, que incluyó el análisis del estado de la colección, la identificación de los riesgos, y recomendaciones para el control de las condiciones ambientales y para el tratamiento posterior de la colección. En este trabajo se describen las medidas implementadas para combatir a cada uno de los diferentes agentes de deterioro y los objetivos alcanzados en el plan de conservación
