English abstract

In response to the peer review crisis, there are increasingly calls in the academic community to move away from traditional types of peer review in favour of open peer review. This issue of the Academic Integrity Newsletter briefly reviews the main types of peer review, their advantages and disadvantages. It should be remembered that regardless of which type the journal chose, the quality and rigour of the review process depends primarily on the involvement of the academic community in this process, which must demand responsible and ethical behaviour from all participants in scholarly communication.
