English abstract
Transliteration is an essential part in library and documentation service. There are many publications in Sinhala language and librarians face difficulties in documenting these publications in global catalogues or databases. Due to the complexity of the Sinhala language it seems that different people used different methods to transliterate the Sinhala texts into English. This article reviews the structure of the Sinhala alphabet and seeks a systematic method to transliterated Sinhala text in globally recognized phonetics.
