English abstract

To know the potentials of own library and make best use of library resources it is necessary to know the information seeking behavior of the readers against varied information sources at par with readers information needs. This study investigates the information needs and information seeking behavior of undergraduate students of different senior colleges. It is observed from the study that among the various information resources, ‘book’ is found to be the first priority by 72.34% of students and 59.90% students visit library to issue text book of their domain. 41.13% of students opined that they got desired information sources from the Library after consultation with library staff. No any students make use of Theses/dissertations and technical reports for their academic work. Further majority of students (87.23%) replied that the suggestion box is available in their library to overcome their problems against their complaints/suggestions for better improvement of library services and facilities. It is suggested from the analysis that the library would benefit the undergraduate students better if more attention were paid towards awareness and arrangement of varied training programmes on e-information product and services, as well as its publicity and promotion by library. Needless to add that automating the user’s services reflects in easy and quick retrieval of information.
