English abstract
[Objectives] The main purpose of this article is to map authors, works and themes that dialogue with information science when dealing with book’s materiality. Objective, specifically: 1. To identify the variations of the theme in the terminological scope; 2. Identify the Brazilian journals with greater coverage of the theme; 3. Identify the international databases with greater coverage of the theme; 4. Identify the international journals with greater coverage of the theme; 5. Demonstrate the relationship between journals that covered the theme and Qualis/CAPES level of these journals; 6. Identify national theses and dissertations on the subject; and 7. Temporally situate the coverage of the theme. [Methodology] To this purpose, a mapping was carried out in national and international databases on the theme "book’s materiality", with the intent to obtain an overview of scientific production in the field. [Results] The mapping results indicated theoretical paths for investigations and the main indicators related to the coverage of the theme; in essence, a "state of the art" of research on "book’s materiality". [Discussions/conclusions] Such theoretical paths corroborate the notion of the book as an object that has informative, physical and metaphysical value, which make it a "semiophore", a term coined by Krzysztof Pomian, to refer to objects imbued with meaning. Therefore, the book is beyond information, and carries a materiality of meaning and intentionality, as observed by Eduardo Murguia. These interpretations help to build the basis of a research instrument to support the investigation of "information materialized and institutionalized as a document", as proclaimed by Rodrigo Rabello.
Portuguese abstract
[Objetivos] O presente trabalho possui como objetivo geral mapear autores, obras e temas que dialogam com a ciência da informação ao tratar da materialidade do livro. Objetiva, especificamente: 1. Identificar as variações do tema no âmbito terminológico; 2. Identificar os periódicos brasileiros de maior cobertura do tema; 3. Identificar as bases internacionais de maior cobertura do tema; 4. Identificar os periódicos internacionais de maior cobertura do tema; 5. Demonstrar a relação entre periódicos que cobriram o tema e nível Qualis/CAPES destas revistas; 6. Identificar teses e dissertações nacionais sobre o tema; e 7. Situar temporalmente a cobertura do tema. [Metodologia] Para tanto, foi realizado um mapeamento em bases de dados nacionais e internacionais a respeito do tema “materialidade do livro”, com vistas a obter um panorama sobre a produção científica na área sobre o assunto. [Resultados] Os resultados do mapeamento apontaram caminhos teóricos para investigações e os principais indicadores relativos à cobertura do tema; em suma, um “estado da arte” da pesquisa sobre “materialidade do livro”. [Discussões/conclusões] Tais caminhos teóricos corroboram a noção do livro como um objeto que possui valor informativo, físico e metafísico, que o tornam um “semióforo”, termo cunhado por Krzysztof Pomian, para se referir a objetos imbuídos de significado. Então, o livro está para além da informação, e carrega uma materialidade de significação e intencionalidade, conforme observado por Eduardo Murguia. Essas interpretações auxiliam o embasamento de um instrumento de pesquisa para subsidiar a investigação sobre a “informação materializada e institucionalizada como documento”, conforme apregoado por Rodrigo Rabello.
