English abstract
The school library is a service of educational institutions that contributes to the formation of communicative and informational skills of the educational community. The purpose of the study was to understand the dynamics of the school library for the promotion of multimodal reading in elementary school students. The research methodology was the case study. The data collection instruments were the field diary and the evaluation of workshops by the students. The participants were 92 students from the third, fourth and fifth grades of a public educational institution in the city of Medellin, Colombia. The results show that the students positively valued the multimodal reading promotion workshops that were implemented from the school library, expecting to find diversity in multimodal resources that motivate them to read and a higher level of interaction with the other participants. In the conclusions it is affirmed that the services of the school library must be aligned with the formative purposes and institutional guidelines on the learning of reading, writing and orality in the students of the basic primary, in addition, that the work of the school librarian It requires permanent updating on strategies to promote reading at school.

La biblioteca escolar es un servicio de las instituciones educativas que aporta a la formación de las competencias comunicativas e informacionales de la comunidad educativa. El propósito de este estudio fue comprender la dinámica de la biblioteca escolar para el fomento de la lectura multimodal en los estudiantes de básica primaria. La metodología de investigación fue el estudio de caso. Los instrumentos de recolección de información fueron el diario de campo y la evaluación de talleres por parte de los estudiantes. Los participantes fueron 92 estudiantes de los grados tercero, cuarto y quinto de una institución educativa pública de la ciudad de Medellín, Colombia. Los resultados muestran que los estudiantes valoraron positivamente los talleres de promoción de lectura multimodal que se implementaron desde la biblioteca escolar, que esperan encontrar diversidad en recursos multimodales que los motive a la lectura y a un mayor nivel de interacción con los otros participantes. En las conclusiones se afirma que los servicios de la biblioteca escolar deben estar alineados con los propósitos formativos y lineamientos institucionales sobre el aprendizaje de la lectura, la escritura y la oralidad en los estudiantes de la básica primaria; además, que la labor del bibliotecario escolar exige actualización permanente sobre estrategias de promoción de la lectura en la escuela.
