Abstract(s)

This article introduces the conception, characteristics, and trend of electronic publishing, network publishing, electronic library, and virtual library. By reviewing the recent development of electronic library and virtual library in USA, Europe and Japan, the author discusses the primary elements containing in the whole process of library's transition from the traditional library to the electronic library, as well as the virtue library. These elements include the transition from purchasing periodically to purchasing anytime, from paper resources to electronic resources, from face-to-face service to virtual service and so on.
