English abstract

This article presents the results of an analysis of the research about the Fediverse, Mastodon, Lemmy, Pleroma, and other fediverse platforms, considering 60 documents retrieved. Publications increase in 2022 and 2023, coinciding with Elon Musk's arrival on Twitter and the so-called waves of migration to Mastodon. The main type of document is the conference article, followed by scientific journal articles and preprints. Much of the publications are open access or free and English is the main language. On the other hand, the main topic is the nature of the Fediverse and its values of federation, decentralization, openness, and its horizontal structure based on instances. Other important topics are the analysis of contents and consumption, and activism. Finally, the article focuses on the relationship between the scientific community and the Fediverse, commenting on some cases of unethical treatment and collection of data from the people in the Fediverse, and highlighting and thinking about the relationship between the values of the federated universe and those of open science.

Se presentan los resultados de un análisis sobre cuánto, cómo y qué se ha investigado sobre el Fediverso considerando un total de 60 documentos recuperados. La publicación de trabajos aumenta en 2022 y 2023, coincidiendo con la llegada de Elon Musk a Twitter y las llamadas olas de migración a Mastodon. La tipología documental según la cual más se publica son los artículos de conferencias, seguidos de los artículos de revista científica y los preprints; gran parte de lo publicado está en acceso abierto o gratuito, lo que cuadra con la filosofía libre y abierta del Fediverso; y predomina el inglés como idioma. La temática más tratada es la de la naturaleza misma del Fediverso y sus valores éticos de la federación, lo descentralizado, lo libre y abierto y su estructura horizontal basada en instancias; seguida de los temas sobre consumo y contenidos, y activismos. Por su interés, se desarrolla la temática de la comunidad científica y el Fediverso, comentando casos de investigaciones con problemas de responsabilidad ética en el tratamiento y obtención de los datos de personas y cuentas del Fediverso; y se reflexiona sobre la relación de los valores del universo federado con los de la ciencia abierta.
