English abstract

This study investigated the influence of ICT skills on librarians’ participation in virtual meetings for professional development. The quantitative study employed a descriptive survey research design. A total enumeration sampling technique was used to include all 158 librarians from 12 public universities in South-South, Nigeria. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the questionnaire data. The findings revealed that although the majority of the librarians possessed the necessary ICT skills for participating in virtual meetings, their actual frequency of participation in such meetings across various areas remained low. Despite encountering some challenges, the librarians derived significant benefits from participating in virtual meetings for professional development. It was recommended that librarians enhance their ICT skills through regular training and computer practice. Additionally, they should participate more frequently in virtual meetings to stay updated with contemporary developments in their profession.
