English abstract

Whenever a book on the thought of a Latin American philosopher appears, we should always be grateful to those who make an effort to keep this type of production alive. Thinking our region, starting with the country itself and then extrapolating the ideas towards a continental concept called "Latin America" is an activity to which Arturo Ardao, the philosopher who is the main subject of this book, devoted himself. The search for the "Latin American being" was a problem that concerned Ardao and it is a subject that to this day provokes reflections and thoughts of various kinds. However, Ardao's contribution was based on considering that the term "Latin America" had integrationist political motivations from its origins. Moreover, its semantic genetic content was loaded with a clear opposition to the imposition of foreign colonial interests. Normally, anyone would think that such term is descriptive, however, Ardao showed us that the origin of such word is linked to a persuasive definition that, despite the enormous variety of peoples living in this part of the world, sought to unify and unite under a single will the struggle against certain imperialist interests.

Siempre que aparece un libro sobre el pensamiento de algún filósofo latinoamericano hay que agradecer de todo corazón a los que se esfuerzan por mantener aún vigente este tipo de producciones. Pensar nuestra región, empezando por el propio país para luego extrapolar las ideas hacia un concepto continental denominado “Latinoamérica” es una actividad a la que se dedicó el propio Arturo Ardao, filósofo que constituye el tema principal de este libro. La búsqueda del “ser latinoamericano” fue un problema que preocupó a Ardao y es un tema que hasta la fecha provoca reflexiones y pensamientos de variada índole. No obstante, el aporte de Ardao se basó en considerar que el término “Latinoamérica” tuvo motivaciones políticas integracionistas desde sus orígenes. Es más, su contenido genético semántico estuvo cargado de una clara oposición a la imposición de intereses coloniales extranjeros. Normalmente, cualquiera pensaría que dicho término es descriptivo, sin embargo, Ardao nos mostró que el origen de tal vocablo está ligado a una definición persuasiva que, a pesar de la enorme variedad de pueblos que viven en esta parte del mundo, buscaba unificar y reunir bajo una sola voluntad la lucha contra ciertos intereses imperialistas.
