English abstract

Tutorial : harvesting from an OAI data provider is typically the first step to becoming an OAI service provider. In this workshop we will discuss issues related to harvesting, examine a simple but complete harvesting tool, provide hands-on experience to configure and run it, and discuss possible uses for the harvested data. But being a service provider isn't limited to harvesting and aggregating other people's data. By using a resolver service for OAI repository and item identifiers, useful services can also be created by exploiting the rich capabilities of the OAI-PMH directly. These services can be defined by the data provider, third parties, or individual users, with examples shown for each.
