English abstract
This chapter aims to address the role played by editors in the production, dissemination and development of the dispute over the nature of comets. In particular, it is of interest to understand the commercial and cultural conditions that made it possible for printers to be interested in publishing works that today we consider to be of a scientific nature, but which, as we will see, occupied another place in the culture of New Spain. It will also seek to account for the relationship between the origin and prestige of the author and access to the printed publication of his work, as one of the factors for the dissemination of his thought. To this end, the chapter has been divided into three parts: the first focuses on the controversy over the nature of comets, its themes and political implications, as well as its participants, their prestige and their position in the debate; then we will take a tour through the astrological culture printed in the seventeenth century, to understand the role that the authors of the dispute have in it, when they have it, and to investigate how this culture is the framework within which both the dispute and the participation in it of the authors who did it must be understood.

El presente capítulo se propone abordar el papel que jugaron los editores en la producción, difusión y desarrollo de la disputa sobre la naturaleza de los cometas. En particular interesa entender cuáles fueron las condiciones comerciales y culturales que hicieron posible que los impresores se interesaran en publicar obras que hoy consideramos de carácter científico, pero que, como veremos, ocupaban otro lugar en la cultura novohispana. También se buscará dar cuenta de la relación entre el origen y prestigio del autor y el acceso a la publicación impresa de su obra, como uno de los factores para la difusión de su pensamiento. Con ese fin se ha dividido el capítulo en tres partes: la primera se centra en la controversia sobre la naturaleza de los cometas, sus temáticas e implicaciones políticas, así como en sus participantes, su prestigio y su posición en el debate; después haremos un recorrido a través de la cultura astrológica impresa en el siglo XVII, para entender el rol que los autores de la disputa tienen en ella, cuando la tienen, e indagar cómo esta cultura es el marco dentro del cual hay que entender tanto la disputa como la participación en ella de los auto res que lo hicieron.
