English abstract

This paper examines the usage and the purpose of WhatsApp application among the randomly selected medical students at BIMS College Belagavi in Karnataka, India through a questionnaire method. There were 193 responses received and the data has been analyzed using the SPSS statistical tool. The findings of the study indicate that a majority of students utilize WhatsApp for communication and information sharing and have expressed a desire for accessing library services such as lists of recently acquired books and newspaper services through this application. The findings of the study also enable librarians to ascertain the specific services that students seek via these digital channels and to incorporate social media strategically within library operations.
