English abstract

The appointment of a new editor-in-chief marks a significant milestone in the history of Information Development. This editorial traces the professional journey of Juan D. Machin-Mastromatteo within the journal, culminating in his recent designation to this leadership role. Reflecting on nearly thirteen years of collaboration with the journal, the editorial revisits his trajectory from reviewer to Editorial Advisory Board member, columnist, associate editor, and acting editor, highlighting key transitions and contributions along the way. The editorial also considers the broader role of editorials within academic journals. While acknowledging their often-limited readership and scientific recognition, it argues that certain types—particularly milestone editorials and those accompanying special issues—offer valuable documentation of editorial philosophy, institutional memory, and historical context. These texts can serve as important sources for future research on scholarly publishing practices. Looking ahead, the editorial outlines a commitment to continuity and quality in the journal’s operation, inspired by the legacy of the founding editor. It also expresses gratitude for the collaborative culture cultivated around Information Development, recognizing the professional growth that such engagement fosters. El nombramiento de un nuevo editor en jefe marca un hito significativo en la historia de Information Development. Esta editorial traza el recorrido profesional de Juan D. Machin-Mastromatteo dentro de la revista, que culmina con su reciente designación en este rol de liderazgo. Al reflexionar sobre casi trece años de colaboración con la publicación, el texto recorre su trayectoria como revisor, miembro del Comité Editorial Asesor, columnista, editor asociado y editor interino, destacando transiciones clave y contribuciones importantes en el proceso. Esta editorial también examina el papel más amplio de las editoriales en las revistas científicas. Si bien reconoce su escasa visibilidad y limitado reconocimiento científico, sostiene que ciertos tipos —en particular las editoriales de transición y los que acompañan números especiales— ofrecen una documentación valiosa sobre la filosofía editorial, la memoria institucional y el contexto histórico. Estos textos pueden constituir fuentes importantes para investigaciones futuras sobre las prácticas de publicación científica. Con miras al futuro, esta editorial expone un compromiso con la continuidad y la calidad en la operación de la revista, inspirado en el legado del editor fundador. Asimismo, expresa gratitud por la cultura de colaboración que se ha cultivado en torno a Information Development, reconociendo el crecimiento profesional que este tipo de compromiso prolongado puede generar.
