English abstract

In April 1984, along with RAPI-NOTA 9, the Consorci d'Informació i Documentació de Catalunya (CIDC) sent a questionnaire to all teledocumentation centers in Spain. The purpose of this questionnaire was to determine their use of foreign databases, in order to make the compiled results available to them and to the interested public at large. As indicated at the time, the objective was only to obtain approximate figures, which until now had not existed, on the size and characteristics of the online market in Spain. Therefore, the questionnaire template (see appendix) was simplified as much as possible to ensure easy completion, and for the same reason, the plan was to collect the data only twice a year, in February and November. The data presented here correspond to 29 teledocumentation centres and the month of February 1984. We intend to publish these tables semiannually in Rapi-Nota, and we are open to all kinds of suggestions regarding their format, new data, etc. GENERAL RESULTS. Hours spent: DIALOG 1,270, ESA/IRS 890, DIMDI 770, INKA 108, TELESYSTEMES 92, DATA-STAR 85, SDC 60, Others 18. TOTAL = 3,293 hours. Taking into account that the average access time per query is approximately 12 minutes, as can be deduced from Table 1, the total number of bibliographic searches performed on foreign hosts would be 116,500 searches/year, of which, at an average of 36 references per search, approximately 1,590,000 references/year would be obtained.

En el mes de abril de 1984, junto con la RAPI-NOTA 9, desde el Consorci d'Informació i Documentació de Catalunya (CIDC) se envió un cuestionario a todos los centros de teledocumentación de España, cuyo objeto era conocer el consumo que hacen de las bases de datos extranjeras, para poder poner luego los resultados compilados a su disposición y al del público interesado en general. Tal como se indicaba entonces, se pretendía solamente tener unas cifras aproximadas, pero hasta ahora inexistentes, sobre las dimensiones y características del mercado online en España. Por ello, el modelo de cuestionario (v. anexo) se simplificó al máximo para que pudiera ser rellenado con facilidad y, por idéntico motivo, se pensó hacer la recogida solamente dos veces al año, en febrero y en noviembre. Los datos aquí presentados corresponden a 29 centros de teledocumentación y al mes de febrero de 1984. Nuestra intención es publicar estas tablas con carácter semestral en la Rapi-Nota, estando abiertos a toda clase de sugerencias en relación a su formato, nuevos datos, etc. RESULTADOS GENERALES. Horas consumidas: DIALOG 1.270, ESA 890, DIMDI 770, INKA 108, TELESYSTEMES 92, DATA-STAR 85, SDC 60, Otros 18 TOTAL = 3.293 horas Teniendo en cuenta que la media de tiempo de acceso por consulta es de unos 12 minutos, según se deduce de la Tabla 1, el número total de búsquedas bibliográficas realizadas a hosts extranjeros sería de 116.500 búsquedas/año, de las que, a una media de 36 referencias por búsqueda, se obtendrían unas 1590.000 referencias/año.
