English abstract
This article reviews the adoption of Open Access (OA) scholarly communication, examining publishing models, policies, technology, and researcher motivations. While OA improves knowledge accessibility, visibility, and collaboration, challenges remain, including Article Processing Charges, predatory journals, and resistance from subscription-based stakeholders. Addressing financial, quality, and policy challenges is essential for equitable global access to knowledge.
