English abstract

This article reviews the intense work carried out since the early 1980s to protect Andalusia's documentary heritage. Since the beginning of Andalusian autonomy, it became urgent to ensure the preservation of collections from institutions that had disappeared or were undergoing transformation, especially after the end of the Franco regime. It highlights the effort to locate, collect and organise scattered documentation or documentation at risk of loss, such as administrative archives, collections from official bodies and notarial protocols of great historical value. It also emphasises the improvement of infrastructure, the professionalisation of archival work and the growing social awareness of the importance of documentary heritage. Overall, it offers a vision of the archive as a key space for preserving collective memory and facilitating historical research.

Spanish abstract

Se repasa la intensa labor desarrollada desde comienzos de los años ochenta para proteger la memoria documental andaluza. Desde los inicios de la autonomía andaluza, cuando se hizo urgente garantizar la conservación de fondos procedentes de instituciones desaparecidas o en proceso de transformación, especialmente tras el final del franquismo. Se destaca el esfuerzo por localizar, recoger y organizar documentación dispersa o en riesgo de pérdida, como archivos administrativos, fondos de organismos oficiales y protocolos notariales de gran valor histórico. Asimismo se subraya la mejora de infraestructuras, la profesionalización del trabajo archivístico y la creciente concienciación social sobre la importancia del patrimonio documental. En conjunto, se ofrece una visión del archivo como espacio clave para preservar la memoria colectiva y facilitar la investigación histórica.
