English abstract

National-level policies around open access to research differ around the world, and the issues at stake around public accessibility to research demand an international perspective. In this panel event, the current landscape of open access policy development in the USA, Canada, and Latin America will be compared and contrasted. Panelists with views from across the Americas will explore and discuss the differing national perspectives around open access to research. Panelists: Heather Joseph, Executive Director of the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC), Michael Sinatra, Associate Professor of English at the Université de Montréal, the President (French) of the Canadian Society for Digital Humanities, Dominique Babini, Open Access Program coordinator at CLACSO-Latin American Council on Social Sciences Moderator: Pamela Graham is Director of Global Studies and the Center for Human Rights Documentation & Research at Columbia University.

Las políticas nacionales en torno al acceso abierto a la investigación difieren en todo el mundo, y los desafíos en torno al acceso público a la investigación exigen una perspectiva internacional. En este panel, se comparará y contrastará el panorama actual del desarrollo de políticas de acceso abierto en Estados Unidos, Canadá y América Latina. Panelistas con perspectivas de todo el continente americano explorarán y debatirán las diferentes perspectivas nacionales en torno al acceso abierto a la investigación. Panelistas: Heather Joseph, Directora Ejecutiva de la Coalición de Publicaciones Académicas y Recursos Académicos (SPARC); Michael Sinatra, Profesor Asociado de Inglés en la Universidad de Montreal y Presidente (Francés) de la Sociedad Canadiense de Humanidades Digitales; Dominique Babini, Coordinador del Programa de Acceso Abierto de CLACSO-Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales Moderadora: Pamela Graham es Directora de Estudios Globales y del Centro de Documentación e Investigación en Derechos Humanos de la Universidad de Columbia.
