English abstract

Archival appraisal has traditionally focused on records generated in analog format, but today it faces a paradigm shift due to the massive production of data in digital environments. This study analyzes academic publications between 2020 and 2024 that describe methodologies and/or experiences focused on differentiating or integrating the appraisal of records and data, with the aim of managing information efficiently. Based on documentary research and content analysis, eleven relevant publications from journals which specialize in archival science and information science were selected. Among the findings there are three main themes: the adoption of post-custodial models to manage large volumes of information; the automation of this process through artificial intelligence; and the evolution of traditional criteria toward new dimensions such as reliability, exploitability, and representativeness. Although emerging technologies can be allies for archival appraisal, judgment remains with humans who make sure the historical and social relevance of the information is preserved. In summary, archival appraisal is a dynamic and interdisciplinary process that can be assisted by technology, where the archivist plays a crucial role in the sustainability of information governance in the digital age.

La valoración archivística, en su evolución se ha concentrado en documentos generados en soporte analógico y hoy enfrenta un cambio de paradigma por la producción masiva de datos en entornos digitales. Este estudio analiza publicaciones académicas entre 2020 y 2024 que expresan metodologías y/o experiencias enfocadas en diferenciar o integrar la valoración de documentos y de datos, con el propósito de gestionar eficientemente la información. A partir de una investigación documental y un análisis de contenido, se seleccionaron once publicaciones relevantes de revistas especializadas en archivística y ciencias de la información. Entre los hallazgos hay tres ejes principales: la adopción de modelos postcustodiales para gestionar grandes volúmenes de información; la automatización de este proceso mediante inteligencia artificial; y la evolución de criterios tradicionales hacia nuevas dimensiones como la fiabilidad, la explotabilidad y la representatividad. Aunque las tecnologías emergentes pueden ser aliadas para la valoración archivística, el juicio permanece sobre los humanos quienes aseguran la pertinencia histórica y social de la información conservada. En resumen, la valoración archivística es un proceso dinámico e interdisciplinario que puede ser asistido por la tecnología, donde el archivista desempeña un papel crucial en la sostenibilidad de la gobernanza de la información en la era digital.
