English abstract
Starting with an analysis of globalization, the author discusses the role of information society in the building of a global society based on common good. He debates mainly the problem of the telecommunications and their relationship with the market, the need of a regulation for the area, the Internet, the promotion and strength of the public domain, besides issues such as as competitiveness and public interest. The role of UNESCO in the information society as well as the search of a humanist meaning for the globalization process are also discussed.
Spanish abstract
A partir del análisis de la globalización, se discute el papel de la sociedad de la información en la construcción de una sociedad global basada en el bien común. Se aborda de modo particular la cuestión de las telecomunicaciones y sus relaciones con el mercado, la necesidad de una regulación en esta área, Internet, la promoción y el fortalecimiento del dominio público, además de otros temas como la competitividad y el interés público. Se discute también el papel de la UNESCO en la sociedad de la información y la búsqueda de un sentido humanista al proceso de globalización.
