English abstract

The American Society for Information Science and Technology (ASIST) is the leading professional association for these Fields in USA. In this Paper, One can find the summary of the primary activities of the Society, its the present mission and the vision of the development, its short history, the list of its main publications/editions, the basical forms of the continuing education offered by the ASIST, the preview of electronic resources and different forms of membership. The review of expert reunions and conferences, the summary of papers from the last annual ASIST Conference, held in Philadelphia in 2002, and the annunciation for the ASIST Conference for year 2003, are given in the special section of the Paper.

Američko društvo za informacione nauke i tehnologije (ASIST – American Society for Information Science and Technology) vodeće je stručno udruženje za navedene oblasti u Sjedinjenim Američkim Državama. U tekstu je dat pregled osnovnih aktivnosti društva, aktuelna misija i vizija razvoja društva, kratak istorijat, lista glavnih publikacija, osnovni oblici kontinuiranog obrazovanja koje nudi društvo, prikaz dostupnih elektronskih izvora i različitih formi članstva. U posebnom odeljku dat je prikaz stručnih sastanaka i konferencija, pregled izlaganja na poslednjoj godišnjoj konferenciji ASIST-a održanoj u Filadelfiji 2002. godine i najava konferencije za 2003. godinu.
