English abstract

The article describes the potential of academic libraries in contributing to the information literacy training of all participants in academic education process. The author's opinion is that learning resource centres can substantially improve the quality of educational programs and at the same time cut down expenses. Special attention has been given to the information literacy training of future teachers. Teachers equipped with ICT skills are a reliable ensurance of the transfer of new knowledge and skills to students. Academic librarians, in particular those who obtained their degrees in library and information science schools, acquire valuable ICT teaching skills in the course of their studies. However, they should be additionally trained so as to meet the equirements of their working environment. This should primarily be done in relation to awareness raising and training of teaching staff in order to facilitate systematic inclusion of all media and technologies into educational process. While academic libraries provide indispensible support to modernization efforts in teaching at all levels, educational environment shaped through academic teaching, and library as an information resource centres, supplement each other.

Croatian abstract
