English abstract

The SAPIENS (Scottish Academic Periodicals Implementing an Effective Networked Service) project, funded by the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council, aimed to investigate the viability of a centralised electronic journal publishing service for independent Scottish publishers. The project developed an operational service delivering journal content from a number of publishers. The report describes the issues involved in developing such a service and the project outcomes.
