English abstract

Accreditation agencies, higher education institutions, and professional organizations all emphasize the importance of measuring and assessing the impacts or effects of teaching, learning, and other valued institutional activities. Academic libraries, one of the key players in providing and structuring instructional resources and services, also are expected to document how their performance contributes to institutional goals and outcomes. Using accreditation and ACRL sectional standards/criteria, higher education outcomes assessment research findings and recent findings from performance effectiveness studies, this aticle identifies important institutional outcomes to which academic libraries contribute; describes specific performance indicators whose measures of impacts and outputs provide evidence about progress and achievement; and offers a conceptual framework of assessment domains for the teaching-learning library . Las agencias de acreditación y evaluación, las instituciones de educación superior y las organizaciones profesionales subrayan la importancia de medir y sopesar el impacto o los efectos de la docencia, el aprendizaje y demás actividades institucionales de valor. También se espera que las bibliotecas universitarias, que constituyen uno de los elementos clave en la provisión y estructuración de los recursos y servicios educativos, sean capaces de demostrar cómo y hasta qué punto su rendimiento contribuye al logro de los resultados y las metas de la institución. Valiéndose de los criterios y normas de las agencias de acreditación y de las secciones de la ACRL (Association of College and Research Libraries – ALA), de las conclusiones de la investigación sobre evaluación de resultados en la educación superior, y de los hallazgos más recientes contenidos en los estudios sobre la eficacia del rendimiento, este artículo trata de identificar un conjunto de resultados institucionales importantes a los que las bibliotecas universitarias sin duda contribuyen; describe indicadores específicos de rendimiento cuyas medidas de impacto y resultados aportan pruebas fehacientes acerca de los progresos y logros conseguidos; y ofrece un marco conceptual de los campos a evaluar en una biblioteca de apoyo a la enseñanza y el aprendizaje.
