English abstract
In 2001, the JISC-funded study INSPIRAL (INveStigating Portals of Information Resources And Learning) examined the non-technical, institutional issues involved in linking digital library resources and services with VLEs in UK HE. The findings of INSPIRAL include the stakeholder communities’ vision for the future, potential barriers to implementation, and factors in support of successful linkage. Four UK HE case studies provide preliminary exemplars of good practice.
