English abstract

The change in the educational thought, the rapidly growth of scientific information, that are storeed in electronic form, and finally the expansion of technological knowledge have as results new challenges, concerning their role as basic tool of educations and knowledge Management, for the academic libraries to take place. During the last decade the collaboration between librarians and academic instructors has been enhanced, aiming to incorporation of information literacy into academic study programs. Information literacy is a set of abilities requiring individuals to “recognize when Information is needed and has the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information.” In this paper we attempt an investigation on Greek academic libraries’ status related to their users’ education and on programs that can be applied in collaboration with the rest of academic community. In addition we present the ways of productive interaction between librarian and educational personnel for the improvement of information literacy.
