English abstract

The OpenURL framework, a term that is becoming widely used in the information world, will be explained with some theoretical concepts but mostly by presenting a concrete description of its set up and its capacities. Following a brief introduction on the linking services found in information resources these days, the author will offer a short overview of the birth of OpenURL and then demonstrate its inner workings. For patrons, the OpenURL technology is without a doubt a powerful tool that provides, when possible, direct and seamless access to electronic resources while offering other pertinent options depending on the institution’s collection. Still in its infancy, this new standard offers undeniable advantages for the research library environment.
