English abstract

Conference which has as objective to revise the different dilemmas which had to undergo the task of indization (special mention to the web environment) though the 20th century, not only in Argentina but around the world. Each one of them is presented like a conflict, with an explanation about its motives, the environments in which they occurred and the favorable and unfavorable arguments held. It brings out that before the alternative human indization vs. Automatic indization, all the systems of classification, systematics or not, pre or post coordinated, subject heading lists or thesauri, are put in doubt. It is also in doubt a substantial part of our professional work. We as librarians are perfectly equipped for cataloging the web and not because we are better or worse than the search robots, but because the searchers give certain alternatives by using different forms of automatic indization and we can offer another alternatives of recall using assignated indization. It concludes in that librarian will never build a unique system of inidization or classification which works like a true standard, it is to say that it will work the same way in any situation.

Conferencia que tiene por objetivo repasar los diferentes dilemas que tuvo que pasar la tarea de indización a lo largo del siglo XX (especial mención del entorno web), no sólo en la Argentina sino también en el extranjero. Cada uno de ellos es presentado en forma de conflicto, con una explicación sobre sus porqués, los entornos en donde ocurrieron y los argumentos planteados a favor y en contra. Destaca que frente a la alternativa indización humana vs. Indización automática, están en tela de juicio todos los sistemas de clasificación sistemáticos o no, pre o pos coordinados, listas de encabezamientos o tesauros. Está en tela de juicio una parte susbstancial de nuestro quehacer profesional. Estamos perfectamente equipados para catalogar la web y no porque seamos mejores o peores que los robots de búsqueda, sino porque los buscadores dan ciertas alternativas utilizando diferentes formas de indización automática y nosotros podemos ofrecer otras alternativas de recuperación utilizando “indización asignada”.Concluye en que los bibliotecarios nunca vamos a construir un sistema de indización o de clasificación único que funciones como un auténtico standard, es decir que sirva de la misma manera en cualquier situación.
