English abstract

Evaluates the role played by micro film and fiche in conservation of rare and valuable documents. The facility offered by the microform technology in transmission of documents as well as communication of information in special difficult situations like that of war, siege etc in earlier days when no other alternative mechanism was available is also explained. Defines microforms, gives a bird’s eye view of the historical development of the technology, and explains the different categories of microforms that existed. The benefits of the media are discussed. The efforts in India especially in Kerala to convert rare document collections into microfilm, fiche etc is discussed. Points out the need for transferring documents conserved in microforms to digital media.

Microform sankethika vidhyayude charithram, nirmanathinum vitharanathinum avasymaya yanthrangal, aa madhyamthinte gunangal, enpathukalil, Bharathathil, Keralathil amulya granthangal microfilmilekku pakarthiya samrambangal thudangiyava vivarikkunnu. Microflimilum mattum sukshichirikkunna rekakal digital archivukalilekku mattendunnathinte avasyakatha choondikkankkunnu.
