English abstract

The paper stresses the need for library orientation progrmmes in colleges. Methods for user orientation like lectures, library tours, brochures, posters etc are explained. The aspects to be covered in user orientation programmes are outlined. Opines that user orientation programme in a college library should try its utmost to minimize the gap between the student and his information by familiarizing him with everything that is essential for him to retrieve his document or information from the library.
