English abstract

The Library, as an institution of knowledge and information consists one of the most important and famous organizations. Its worthy and multilateral role is considered to be a self-evident element. The Library is a place of education, information, research and social action. It is the place where users have the ultimate capability to get to know with library’s collections and search for information with the help of staff experts. Nowadays, it is being characterized as an information service, which offers to the users the opportunity to track and retrieve the knowledge they are interested in with a direct, rapid and prompt way from every geographical location. The new reality with the strong presence of computing and technologies changes the whole meaning of the conventional library. The emphasis is being given to the capabilities of qualitative and imminent information and the essential aim of this fact is the support of learning, research and teaching without the limitations of time and location, which the conventional library set.

Η Βιβλιοθήκη ως φορέας γνώσης και πληροφόρησης συνιστά έναν από τους πιο γνωστούς και σημαντικούς χώρους. Η αξία του και ο πολύπλευρος ρόλος του θεωρούνται στοιχεία αυταπόδεικτα. Αποτελεί χώρο ενημέρωσης, επιμόρφωσης, προαγωγής της έρευνας και κοινωνικής δράσης. Είναι η τοποθεσία περιδιάβασης σε συλλογές και αναζήτησης πληροφοριών με τη μεσολάβηση του προσωπικού. Στις μέρες μας, η Βιβλιοθήκη χαρακτηρίζεται ως υπηρεσία πληροφόρησης, η οποία παρέχει τη δυνατότητα στο σύγχρονο χρήστη να εντοπίζει και να ανακτά τη γνώση με άμεσο, γρήγορο και έγκαιρο τρόπο και από οποιαδήποτε γεωγραφική τοποθεσία βρίσκεται. Η καινούργια πραγματικότητα με την επικράτηση των νέων τεχνολογιών αλλάζει την έννοια της παραδοσιακής Βιβλιοθήκης. Δίνεται, πλέον, έμφαση στις δυνατότητες ποιοτικής και άμεσης πληροφόρησης για την υποστήριξη της μάθησης, της έρευνας και της διδασκαλίας χωρίς περιορισμούς χρόνου και τόπου, τους οποίους έθετε η συμβατική Βιβλιοθήκη.
