English abstract

(Review of the book "Sustainable University Library Development" edited by R. Raman Nair) Role of information is becoming more and more important in every sphere of human activity. So large information systems have come into existence over a long period of time in traditional way. But recently information and communication Technology have made possible alternate methods which were speedy, efficient and cost effective for providing information services. The sustainability of the traditional systems and methods is under Question. The studies included in the book stress on development with concern for technology and needs of future generations. The volume is a welcome addition to the existing body of literature on the subject and could prove useful to the working librarians to ensure sustainability of the systems and services managed by them.
