English abstract
Library and information service in the college is a very important constituent that determine the quality of academic programmes. Presently college libraries in India are not in a position to fulfill their important objective due to unplanned growth, irrelevant collections, poor organization of materials, high cost of books, journals and storage, unqualified staff, and inefficient retrieval systems. Revitalization of college libraries has become urgent in the context of deteriorating quality of higher education and research. This paper is an attempt to check how far and in what aspects the computer technology can be used by colleges to strengthen library facilities and to improve the quality of resources, their organization and services. The study finds that computers can be used for revitalizing college library system at 33% less cost than that is required for traditional methods. Library will also get computer systems, which can be used for providing additional facilities without any extra investment.
