English abstract

. The author of the article retraces the history of the World Summit on the information society, held in Geneva in December 2003. Quoting from the Declaration of principals and the Plan of action adopted at the end of the summit, he presents the challenges of WSIS for information professionals, highlighting the North-South divide. He ends by listing the results of the first actions led by libraries on different continents.

French abstract

. L’auteur de l’article rappelle l’histoire du Sommet mondial sur la société de l’information, qui s’est tenu à Genève en décembre 2003. Citant la Déclaration de principe et le Plan d’action adoptés à l’issue du sommet, il présente les enjeux du SMSI pour les professionnels de l’information, en insistant sur l’inégalité entre pays du Nord et du Sud. Il dresse enfin un bilan des premières actions menées sur différents continents par les bibliothèques.
