Das Buch besteht aus zwei Teilen etwa gleichen Umfangs. Der erste Teil umfasst eine Einleitung sowie das Kapitel "Probleme und Entwicklung der Katalogisierung", während der zweite Teil ein lexikalisch anmutendes "A–Z" der Katalogarten, -formen und -typen darstellt.
