English abstract

This paper describes about the new role of librarian, due to the widespread of IT use. Librarian should be ready to accomodate the development of IT in library and in society.Especially the old librarianship paradigm should be revised to the new paradigm of librarianship in Indonesia.

Meluasnya pengguna teknologi informasi di kalangan masyarakat dewasa ini menuntut pustakawan untuk rela meninjau kembali dan merevisi paradigma maupun praktek-praktek kepustakawanan yang dianut selama ini. Perubahan-perubahan perlu dilakukan secara holistik dan menyangkut berbagai aspek termasuk manajerial dan mental tetapi dengan tetap menyadari ketakseragaman level teknologi informasi bermacam perpustakaan di berbagai penjuru negeri. Hasil yang diidamkan adalah kepustakawanan yang akomodatif terhadap perkembangan teknologi informasi tetapi dalam baktinya tetap sadar dan hirau akan sebagian perpustakaan yang memang masih harus beroperasi secara tradisional. Kepustakawanan seperti ini merupakan alternatif untuk menangkal marginalisasi profesi sekaligus meningkatkan kepustakawanan tanpa melupakan dan meninggalkan realita.
