English abstract

Several consortium members of the Austrian Library Network would be interested in the use of authority files for specialized classification schemes. In the realm of mathematics the generally accepted scheme is the MSC (Mathematics Subject Classification, also known as AMS Classification; AMS = American Mathematical Society). The authors conducted a pilot project in order to test a newly designed authority file for the consortium-wide use of this scheme, using the Aleph 500 library automation software. The experiences made can also be used for future applications (classification schemes, thesauri). This presentation gives an overview of the first prototype authority file for the MSC.

German abstract

Im Österreichischen Bibliothekenverbund wurde die verbundweite Unterstützung von Fachklassifikationen durch Normdateien diskutiert. Im Fachgebiet Mathematik stellt die Mathematics Subject Classification (MSC, oft auch als AMS-Klassifikation bezeichnet; AMS = American Mathematical Society) das international allgemein anerkannte Erschliessungsinstrument dar. In einem Pilotprojekt wurde der Einsatz dieser Klassifikation als Verbundsystematik durch den Aufbau einer neuen Verbundnormdatei unter dem Bibliothekssystem Aleph 500 erprobt. Dadurch sollen auch Erkenntnisse für weitere zukünftige Anwendungsfälle (Fachklassifikationen, Thesauri, etc.) gewonnen werden. In diesem Werkstattbericht wird ein erster Prototyp der MSC-Normdatei vorgestellt.
