English abstract

This study discusses the reasons that make possible the desintermediation as well as the new role that should be adopted by the information professional, at the same time as to serve for reflecting and highlighting the essential role of the information professional as intermediary between databases and scientific information and end-users.

Este artículo pretende servir de reflexión a la vez que destacar el papel predominante que tiene el documentalista o el profesional de la información como intermediario entre el usuario y la información científica contenida en bases de datos, examinando aquellas razones que parecen favorecer la desintermediación y un cambio en el nuevo papel que debe de asumir el documentalista.
