English abstract

This paper deals with the US (former Israeli) company, Ex Libris, a global market leader in library software, and its user group, IGeLU. Special attention is given to the co-operation between manufacturer and customers. An overview about company organization and activities is followed by a brief history of the user groups, which in 2006 were integrated into one association named "International User Group of Ex Libris Users (IGeLU)". The article shows some aspects of this integration, and presents aims, membership and organizational structure of IGeLU. The second part of the paper describes the activities of the IGeLU Steering Committee (SC) as well as details of the co-operation between IGeLU and Ex Libris. At last, the author resumes his personal experiences of working for the IGeLU SC.

German abstract

Der Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit der US-amerikanischen (früher israelischen) Firma Ex Libris, einem Weltmarktführer auf dem Gebiet der Bibliothekssoftware, sowie deren User Group IGeLU. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Darstellung der Kooperation zwischen Hersteller und Anwendern. Am Beginn steht ein Überblick über Organisation und Tätigkeit des Unternehmens. Darauf folgt ein Abriss der Geschichte der User Groups, die sich im Jahr 2006 aus zwei Einzelorganisationen zur "International Group of Ex Libris Users (IGeLU)" zusammenschlossen. Die Hintergründe dieser Fusion werden ebenso beleuchtet wie Ziele, Mitgliedschaft und organisatorischer Aufbau von IGeLU. Der zweite Teil des Artikels widmet sich den Aktivitäten des IGeLU-Vorstandes einerseits sowie den verschiedenen Aspekten der Zusammenarbeit von IGeLU und Ex Libris. Den Abschluss bilden einige persönliche Erfahrungen, die der Autor im Laufe seiner Tätigkeit im Vorstand von IGeLU machen durfte, und ein knapp gehaltenes Resümee.
