English abstract

The purpose of this manual is to enable the information managers/information users to create the easiest possible prototype digital libraries with stable, free software. Access to information is considered to be a vital determinant of development in any human endeavor including academic and research activities and hence digital management of information has wider ramifications in this world of abundant electronic documents. The technologies described in this manual will sharpen the information dissemination capabilities of information managers and will enhance the access to information resulting in information empowerment of a wider constituency of information seekers. This self-instructional manual describes the methods of creation of digital archives with Winisis, GenisisWeb and GenisisCD. The software needed are Apache webserver, Winisis, GenisisWeb and GenisisCD. If you have access to pdf converter like Adobe Acrobat, you can refine the documents in the collection into easily useable e-documents. Html editor will help you modify the homepage you create. Anyone with an average knowledge in computers can make use of the software dealt with in this manual, if she/he follows the instructions diligently. Institutions can make use of the technologies mentioned in this manual to publish their research reports and other publications in internet or CD-ROMs very easily.
