English abstract

Enormous concern, interest and efforts of library professionals has gone in library automation. They have tried to move with technological changes from book catalog to card catalog to online to CD to web. They are currently engrossed in the areas Digital Libraries, searching multiple databases, autohypertext links, VRML, DMS software, filtering software, bibliographic web publishing software, etc. This talk highlights various problems and issues in computerisation of Indian libraries. It also compares with extensive statistics the staus and strategy of comuterisation of banks with that of libraries.
